in 2018, ASASI piloted a Paralegal Training for youth to establish community based assistance for the undocumented population which increase the availability of legal aid facilities to at-risk communities where we collaborated with National Registration Department, Immigration Department, and Jabatan Hal Ehwal Agama Islam Negeri Sabah (islamic Affairs department), Malaysian National Security Council (MKN). The aim of the program is to reduce disenfranchised communities reliance to syndicates and local unscrupulous leaders and syndicates for documentation. ASASI also worked to reduce the gap in legal knowledge and assistance to reduce the risk of statelessness and enhance civil registration mechanism at the border region.
ASASI also took the opportunity to hold community dialogues with the attending authorities to address shortcomings and feedback for collaborative community security and better outreach for the responsible agencies. ASASI hereby thank all the security and state agencies for their support and engagement.
