In July 2025, ASASI conducted a series of community engagement and workshop to develop community protocol for the indigenous people village in Kpg Terian, Penampang. The project was part of ASASI's justice initiative to strengthen customary legal mechanism and self determination of indigenous communities. 

The protocol is an important step forward to seek land tenure and sustainable life for the Kpg Terian community that faced uncertainty due to the proposed Papar Mega Dam. We aim to foster effective collaboration with various government agencies and social inclusion of culture and practices at village level for a resolution to the issues and challenges faced by the community.

ASASI also assist the plight of the Terian community in their advocacy of natural water catchment instead of a mega dam initiated by the government as a solution to the water crisis in Kota Kinabalu.
