Empowerment & Leadership Building Among Vulnerable & Disenfranchised Youth in Rural Sabah
ASASI delivered an eight 2-days human rights and security community violence prevention training sessions in Kota Kinabalu, Putatan, Penampang, Banggi Island, Tawau, Sandakan, Sebatik Island, Semporna and Lahad Datu. The training focused on elimination of all form of violence and discriminative practices including discussions of Sexual and Gender Base Violence as well as issues of race, religion and identity as a source of conflict.
The goal of the project was to empower and raise the leadership capacity of local young people, especially girls, on human rights and human development to build peace and better advocate for community-based needs. The project brought together young people from diverse backgrounds to share positive community values and ideas, identify solutions to local issues and engage with authorities to seek solutions. The youth continue to serve as ASASI’s youth network and ambassadors of positive values and resilience among their peers at local level
ASASI also kick-started a long term campaign titled ‘ Kita Orang Sabah, Tolak Diskriminasi dan Ekstremisma’ or ‘ We are Sabahans, Reject All Form of Violence and Extremism’
