The program was designed to empower youth especially from inland and rural areas from diverse ethnic groups, religions, and backgrounds, regardless of status, in the aspects of building security advocates and youth leadership on community security issues at local level and Sabah state collectively. The program emphasized that young people as future leaders in families, communities, and also the country, facing various challenges and emerging issues were empowered on peace building values and rights based leadership as a solution. This leadership camp was also a process of forming ‘conversation’ and collating preventive resolutions as well as addressing issues that have become negative memories from repeating, and to create a preventive ‘firewall’ among Sabah youth to impact the society as whole in the future.
The camp was an effort to collectively build a new progressive culture as a generation of leaders guided by Human Rights and Peace Building values ranging from Peace with self by addressing Mental Health and Emotional Intelligence, followed by Peace with land and nature as in Environmental Sustainability and peace with others as in building Harmony in Diversity and prevention of all form of violence in society as well as values of democracy, political wisdom, and the foundations of modern leadership.
The Porgram was funded by Yayasan Gamuda and Suhakam
