in 2020, ASASI initiated a Community Policing program at the rural district of Lahad Datu, Semporna (Bodgaya island), Sandakan and Banggi island with the collaboration with local authorities such as ESSCOM, Maritime, and the Royal Malaysian Police Department. 

The aim ofthe program is to bridge the disenfranchised communities with local authorities beyond law and order task and to foster collaboration and inclusivity in border and community security management. ASASI also produced a manual on problem solving community based policing and presented to the Royal Malaysian Police and ESSCOM as an outcome document of the programs
